It’s been a few months since my last blog post. Much has happened since then, including a fascinating trip to Croatia. I’ll share some photos from my abandoned explorations, starting with this set from the abandoned University Hospital in Zagreb.

Here are some quick facts about the place:

• Constructed 1982-1992, with the intent of becoming the “diamond” of Croatian hospitals. It was a concrete structure surrounded in glass.
• Abandoned in 1992, after being only about 50% completed, at a cost of 150 million euros, shortly after Crotia declared its independence, which led to the disintegration of Yugoslavia and ultimately several years of conflict.
• 217,000 sq m (53.6 acre) complex
• Other proposed uses for the property have been a hospice, a spa and a technology park.
