Over the last couple of years (hard to believe it’s been that long) we’ve been renovating the rooms in the lower level of Rockton Lodge (that’s what we call our home).
This is the last room to be done in the lower level. Years ago it was a garage, and then a workshop, and then a rec room. We are transforming it once again, this time turning it into a home theatre den at one end and a spacious mud room on the other side, divided by a wall and closet space.
There were lots of complications to contend with, from two electrical panels and an uneven dropped floor to exposed wiring conduit and plumbing. So we got creative with the drywall to box in the infrastruture. It has been a big job, but it’s so going to be worth it in the end.
We did our own framing (my dad came to help with that, which was fun) and we manage our own drywall hanging, plumbing and electrical. (Multipotentiality for the win.) For the crack filling, we’ve got a trusty guy who comes and takes are of that for us. He wrapped up this week, so we’re on to paint!
We had an original goal when we bought this house two years ago of finishing the renovations in 12 to 18 months. We are well beyond that timeframe now, but we’re totally OK with that. Life is a journey, not a race.
Here is the current state of things.

I’ll post some of the progress and finished photos once we complete this project.
